Lil Wayne recently discussed how the massive 7.0 earthquake in Haiti on January 12 impacted his life.
In an interview with MTV News, the rapper revealed that he had numerous Haitian friends who lost family members in the earthquake, which left over 200,000 dead and over three million people displaced.
“I live in Miami, so I have a few Haitian friends,” Lil Wayne told MTV News. “So it impacted me seriously, because some of them lost some of their kids and I had to help out with those situations.”
And although the New Orleans’ Saints are celebrating a Super Bowl victory that will surely boost the city’s spirits, the rapper noted that the conditions in the city are still dire.
“Before I go I think it’s amazing what’s been for Haiti, but I also think it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans,” Lil Wayne told reporters.
Tomorrow (February 9), Lil Wayne will start serving an one-year jail sentenced on New York’s Rikers Island for a felony gun charge possession in July of 2007.
“This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it,” the rapper told Rolling Stone Magazine.
Lil Wayne is planning the release of Tha Carter IV, shortly after he is released from prison.
